Memorial Service Catering

May 27, 2015 - Celebration Catering

Hello again, this is Barbara from Walnut Creek Catering Company, again. This past month, we have had an influx of catering for memorial services and funerals, and so I decided that I would talk about these catering occasions today. Oftentimes, these families are in a rush to find a caterer for their memorial service, and so they will ask us what we recommend to serve at the place. My advice is to keep it simple. A memorial service should be about remembrance and the celebration of friends and family, and so I always recommend that the host keep the catering simple – which is our specialty.

This past Saturday, we catered for a memorial service in East Bay Four Square Church, which is located on Camino Tassajara in Danville. It’s a beautiful church, and we catered for approximately 250 meat-loving guests – so I recommended our pulled pork and tri-tip sliders. It was a hit with the crowd! Our sliders are arguably some of the most delicious dishes we have – and a personal favorite of mine! In addition, the sliders serve as a simple, yet tasty small food item for people to grab anywhere from one to five, depending on how hungry they are. In addition, the catering included Caesar Salad, fresh fruit, potato salad, and assorted mini-sandwiches. It was a great success!

Funeral catering and memorial service catering is not easy, however. It often involves large groups of people and with very short notice for us to schedule, shop, and cook for the occasion. On some of our funeral caterer gigs, we have less than 2 days notice to prepare food for hundreds of guests.

As for funeral homes, we have worked with many in the area. Some beautiful ones (and good service ones) that we know of include Oak Park Hills ChapelHull’s Walnut Creek Chapel, and Deer Creek Funeral Service. These companies will provide all sorts of services for grieving families, including service at your local church, caskets, cremation service, and customized urns. For further services, some of these companies will also help manage the invitation process all the way through the ceremony, so that the family does not need to lift a finger throughout.

Believe it or not, for me, the memorial services are the most touching occasions of all of the type of occasions we cater for. Catering memorial service always gives me a fresh perspective of what is important, in this oftentimes fast-past world that we live in. It gives me joy to witness these, and a cleanse when I go home to my friends and family. It gives me a new appreciation for life.
